Blog #6: Self-Concept
Self concept is what someone believes about what they are like as individuals. At a younger age their views are more optimistic mainly because they have not started comparing their abilities to others. It would be nice to still be in that age where I do not compare my abilities with others because it would not be as stressful. I think it is interesting how different cultures view themselves as an individual. I just figured that everyone wants to stand out and be different and now I realize it is what my culture has made me believe. Individualistic orientation emphasizes uniqueness and collectivistic orientation promotes interdependence. I feel as though I have to stand out and be and individual in order to get ahead in the world and I think it is interesting how Asian cultures depend on each other.
